Transmission lines carry power over long distances, linking generating stations, substations, and major loads across the grid. We design these lines for utilities, renewable energy developers, and industrial clients, from route selection through construction ready drawings.
Whether it is a new line, an upgrade, or a replacement, we design both overhead and underground transmission lines. We take projects from route selection and preliminary design through detailed engineering, and we stay involved through construction so questions in the field get answered by the people who designed the line.
For overhead lines, we start with the alignment and design criteria and carry the design all the way through to PLS CADD models and plan and profile drawings. Along the way, we work out where each structure goes, how the conductor will sag and pull in different conditions, and where clearances get tight, so the line stays safe and reliable in every season. We design the structures themselves too, whether wood pole, steel pole, or lattice, along with the foundations that hold them in place.
Underground lines bring a different set of challenges. We plan the route and how the cable will be installed, design the cable system, and run thermal and ampacity studies to confirm it can carry the load without overheating. We also coordinate the civil works and crossings, so the cable goes into the ground the way it was designed.
Every transmission line has to fit into the real world. That is why we look at the real conditions from day one: the right of way, what is under the ground, how crews will actually build it, and how it ties into substations and the rest of the grid. Catching those issues early means fewer redesigns, fewer delays, and a line that goes up the way it was drawn.
